Oracle ERP Cloud Gains new Artificial Intelligence Capabilities

Oracle users and customers have had the opportunity to attend a wide range of conferences and events dedicated to various parts of the Oracle Cloud ecosystem in 2019.

In addition to the recent Modern Business Experience and Modern Customer Experience events held in Las Vegas this past March, Oracle has also taken OpenWorld international, with events held in London, Dubai, and Singapore between January and March.

Oracle CEO Mark Hurd, a regular keynote speaker at the primary OpenWorld conference in San Francisco, California, also appeared at OpenWorld London to discuss recent improvements to the Oracle Cloud suite. Hurd highlighted the wide-ranging integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies into Oracle’s SaaS solutions, and the benefits AI offers to Oracle customers.

“We can do things now that we could never do before. I think you will see significant changes in user interfaces. I think user interfaces will be all-voice driven and integrated directly with digital assistance, with chatbots. AI will be pervasive. It will be woven into all of these apps and services.”

By using AI throughout Oracle Cloud, Hurd believes users can eliminate large volumes of repetitive manual labor. For users of Oracle CX, Hurd says, “AI will power 85 percent of [phone-based] customer interactions. These interactions will prove the service levels and engagement. Retailers will be able to create a personal experience on any channel.” For users of Oracle SCM Cloud or Oracle ERP Cloud, larger companies “that typically have hundreds and hundreds of people doing analytical work” can streamline their data analytics processes with AI automations.

There are many other AI-driven improvements to Oracle ERP Cloud as well. As we covered in our recap of Oracle’s Modern Business Experience and Modern Customer Experience conferences earlier this year, Oracle ERP Cloud utilizes an AI-powered expense reporting assistant, and the system handles advanced financial controls through automation as well.

Oracle ERP Cloud is an effective business system on its own, but the system now provides even greater streamlining capabilities to large organizations when paired with Oracle Autonomous Database. AI may be able to address much of the data analytics handled in Oracle ERP Cloud, but until recently, managing the databases in which data is stored required a team of talented database administrators and other IT professionals. This arrangement is both resource-intensive and rather inefficient, as it forces DBAs to spend much of their time making sure their databases are working properly, rather than focusing on innovating new ways to manage their systems.

As Hurd noted in London, Oracle’s Autonomous Database was put to the test on NetSuite’s databases, and “with no human interface or no human interaction, [Autonomous Database] wrote 6,000 indexes. Nobody touched it and got seven percent better performance out of the box.” This efficiency will allow DBAs to focus more on innovation and less on maintenance, which ought to be a net gain for everyone involved.

The widespread automation at work in Oracle ERP Cloud are just some of the reasons customers have given it strong reviews on TrustRadius, which awarded the suite as a Top Rated software product for 2019.
